Mexico grants first protected geographical indication for the wines of Querétaro

The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property has officially granted the country’s first protected geographical indication (PGI) for wines to the “Wines of Querétaro Wine Region.” Located in Mexico’s Central Highlands, Querétaro is the southernmost wine-producing area in the northern hemisphere and is recognized for its “extreme viticulture” conditions. Today’s of the state’s 18 municipalities are actively engaged in wine production.
