Russian Restrictions on Wine Imports

Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture has drafted a bill that would restrict still, sparkling, and fortified wine imports as of January 2019. The Ministry’s stated objective is, among other things, to replace European and non-European imports with national and Eurasian Economic Union production. This measure could lead to an increase in domestic and Eurasian sources by 40% to 80%, with an even higher potential of expansion due to the favourable climatic conditions. Source: FIVS
