EC seeks feedback on excise duty rates for alcohol

On 11 April 2022, the European Commission called for feedback on the EU framework governing excise duty rates for alcohol.

Current rules in this area, agreed upon by all EU member states, require the Commission to evaluate and report to the European Council on the implementation of the minimum excise duty rates, which have not been updated for alcohol products since 1992.

During the consultation period, which will end on 04 July 2022, the EC seeks feedback from stakeholders – including businesses, excise and public health authorities, and non-governmental and sectoral professional organisations, as well as citizens – about their day-to-day experience with the rules.
