Drought and high temperatures of 40°C (104°F) and sometimes higher, which accelerated ripening, caused wineries to begin harvesting 10 to 15 days earlier than usual, advancing the traditional harvest month of September to August in Spain.
For the first time, the harvest in Jerez in southern Spain was brought forward this year to the month of July.
